Verizon Communication Relay and Voice-to-Voice
Deaf, heard of hearing and people with speech disabilities can use a phone service called Relay Service. You don't need a TTY or anything except a standard telephone to use this service. How does it work? You call 711 to access the Relay Service Center from anywhere in NYS. The Relay Operator can connect you to your party anywhere in the country. You can also reach the relay operator by calling (800) 421-1220 (voice) and (800) 662-1200 (TTY). There is NO charge for using relay service. Of course, if you are calling long distance, normal long distance charges apply. As stated on Verizon handouts, "Relay Service enables the deaf, heard-of-hearing or speech-disabled TTY user to communicate with the hearing person who uses a standard voice telephone. The Relay Operator facilitates the conversation between the TTY user and the hearing person. Relay Service is free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week." Remember though, 711 is NOT an emergency number. Always dial 911 for emergencies. If you report an emergency through 711, the relay operator will forward you to 911 emergency service which takes added time! Questions about 711 Relay Services or TTY? Call the Relay Inquiry Line, (800) 664-6349 (Voice) or (800) 835-5515 (TTY) _________________ Speech to Speech Information (link repaired 10/22) Access number: 1-877-662-4234(STS)
